Composite Bonding

What is composite bonding?

A composite resin is used to build a new surface on top of your existing tooth, whether to change the appearance of the tooth or to fill gaps. Unlike other cosmetic treatments, composite bonding does not require any changes to your teeth – everything can be done in one visit. The resin used will be colour-matched to your teeth to ensure a discrete result.

Is it the same as veneers?

Porcelain veneers involve trimming a small amount of enamel off your teeth so that the veneers can be fitted, whereas composite bonding does not. The composite resin is also a different material to the ceramic porcelain used in veneers.

Can I have composite bonding?

Composite bonding is suitable for most patients, but we recommend having a consultation with a dentist to find out what is right for you.

Does it hurt?

As there is no tooth preparation, composite bonding is not painful and does not require anaesthetic.

How long does composite bonding last?

With proper care and hygiene, composites regularly last 10-15 years before they need replacing. We recommend replenishing your composites every 3 years to keep them looking natural and flawless.

How do I care for composites?

You need to keep your composites clean just like you would your teeth – brushing twice a day, flossing once, and minimizing consumption of stain-prone liquids like tea, coffee, and wine. Eating solid foods like hard sweets and ice cubes is not recommended, as these are much more likely to damage both your teeth and your composites.

How much does composite bonding cost?

This will vary depending on how much material needs to be added to each tooth. Normally varies between €100-200 per tooth.
