Hypersensitivity can be quite distressing and often patients worry about this when having their teeth cleaned.
Prevention is key!
-
Using a soft toothbrush and a gentle toothbrushing technique is essential.
-
Using a non-abrasive toothpaste is also recommended and brushing should be carried out no more than twice per day for two minutes on each occasion.
-
Limiting acidic foods and drinks – these damage the enamel.
-
Never brush immediately after acidic foods or drinks.
-
Use a sensitive toothpaste
When treating a patient who has hypersensitivity I use topical or local anaesthetic if required. Our aim is for patients treatment to be relaxed and pain free.”
